    Personal and Family Counseling Services is looking to hire a Therapist to perform a combination of community based services with a emphasis on school services. The Therapist will develop therapeutic relationships and provide individual, group or family therapy as needed. Will also assume a strong advocacy role for clients and makes recommendations for clinical and support services needed. Some traveling will be required; work will follow a 10 month school schedule.
    This position is flexible by nature meaning that you can create your own best work/life balance by writing your own schedule! Some nights and weekends may be required as client needs arise. Services are needed in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties and are provided in the school, client home as well as the surrounding community.
    Essential Functions:
    • Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship with client/family/caregiver within in school environment and in the home/community.
    • Completes a Mental Health Assessment and develops an Individual Service/Treatment Plan with client/family and input from referral source.  Assessments may need to be completed in client’s home/community.
    • Provides individual, group or family therapy as needed.  Available for clinical consultations and crisis intervention.
    • Engages families/caregivers with school personnel and assists with linkages to pharmacological services as needed.
    • Assumes a strong advocacy role for clients and makes recommendations for appropriate educational setting, clinical and support services throughout length of service and upon discharge.
    • Maintain ongoing contacts (phone, meetings, and conferences) with other professionals involved, including collateral contacts with community resources/services.
    • Develop and maintain a strong professional relationship (ongoing, open communication) with school personnel.  (Therapist’s presence and visibility in a school and weekly communication is key).
    • Consultation with school personnel to establish parameters of school-based mental health services at the beginning of each new year and as needed throughout the school year.
    • Collaborate and consult with school personnel on client’s needs/treatment, attend and participate in treatment team meetings (IEP…) as needed/requested.
    • Provide school personnel and parents with information on child’s mental health diagnosis, discipline, behavior management, household management, communication and relationship enhancement.
    • Provide in-service training to school personnel on various mental health conditions/diagnosis and effective classroom intervention/strategies as requested.
    • Inform appropriate school personnel of clients being served, maintaining confidentiality on a weekly/monthly basis and/or as requested.
    • Provide prevention services in school including individual crisis intervention and therapeutic/psych-educational groups to address specific needs/school climate issues.
    • Participate in and support school-wide events.  Engage families/caregivers to do the same.
    • Complete and submit all paperwork required by the agency in the timeframe designated by the department.  (Mental Health Assessment, ISP’s, Treatment Reviews, Community Action Reports, Terminations, Progress Notes, Ohio Scales, Satisfaction Surveys).
    • Participate in agency and community meetings as needed.  Attend conferences and workshops to maintain professional competence and licensure.  Provides in-service trainings as requested.
    • Participates in on-call coverage as assigned.
    • To achieve the minimum required productivity standard of the department, Mental Health School Based Counselor may need to be assigned cases from the In Home or Community Mental Health Program(s) providing services to clients in their home and community.  (Refer to protocol/specifics from respective job descriptions/program manuals).
    • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
    Performance/Physical Requirements:
    • Work is performed primarily in the school setting, however some services will be provided in the home/community of clients as warranted per the ISP.  This could involve extensive driving.
    • English reading and writing skills required (bi-lingual is a plus).
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Interacts verbally with coworkers, school personnel, representatives from outside agencies, and families/caregivers.
    • Attention to detail and confidentiality required.
    • Works flexible hours which may involve nights/weekends and required to participate in a crisis management on-call system.
    • Requires typing and computer competency, including Windows applications for moderate levels of typing (case notes and other paper work).
    • Ability to manage own time and schedule.
    Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling with Ohio LSW/LPC or LISW/LPCC is preferred
    • Must have a valid Ohio Drivers License and proof of current auto insurance
