    RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COUNSELOR FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES:

    Organize and review documentation provided by students with disabilities; assist in identification of reasonable accommodations; work in collaboration with appropriate faculty regarding the provision of identified accommodations.

    Organize and administer record-keeping functions of the office such as intake information, standardized documentation of disability, faculty notification letters, subcontracted services (e.g., interpreters and attendants), use of specialized and generic services, and academic achievement; maintain up-to-date list of students registered for services including number and type of disability along with identified accommodations.

    Provide input to the Associate Provost for Enrollment Management regarding budgetary and programmatic decisions to reflect prioritized needs of Lakeland students with disabilities. 

    Work proactively within the college to assess and maximize the accessibility of programs, services, and facilities for Lakeland students with disabilities.

    Refer student with disabilities to appropriate sources of academic, personal, career, medical, and self-advocacy services when necessary.

    Serve as a resource for information on implementation of disability law.

    Perform other related duties as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS FOR COUNSELOR FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES:

    Education and Experience/Training

    A master’s degree from a clinical mental health counseling program or clinical rehabilitation counseling program accredited by CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs).  NOTE:  If your degree  is not from a CACREP-accredited program, it must be a graduate degree in counseling from an accredited institution. “Accredited” or “Appropriately Accredited” means an institution accredited or holding pre-accredited status at the college level by an accreditation agency recognized by the U. S. Secretary of Education; or an institution accredited at the college level by an accrediting agency recognized by the “Council for Higher Education Accreditation”, or  “CHEA”.  Furthermore, a qualifying degree program must include a 100 hour practicum and a 600 hour internship.

    Thorough knowledge and experience applying Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, preferably in a higher education setting interacting with students with disabilities to address their needs.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge of resources available to students with disabilities at local, state, and federal levels

    Skilled in delivery of supportive services for students with disabilties; human relations

    Ability to relate to persons from diverse backgrounds such as low income, first-generation students, veterans, nontraditional students, and other minorities; organize and maintain supportive services in an institutional setting; work cooperatively and effectively with various College and non-college constituencies; apply policies and procedures of the College; educate the College community to promote positive support for students with disabilities.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    This is a part-time faculty position of 20-24 hours per week, paid at a rate of $28.87/hour.
